Birthplace: Monongahela, PA
Education: Elizabeth Forward High School/ Penn State University – General Science major and Psychology/ University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
Training: Pediatric Residency, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Hospital Affiliations/Teaching: Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, St. Clair Hospital.
Professional Interests: Concussion Management.
My Inspiration: When I was 7 years old, I had Acute Rheumatic Fever and spent a good deal of time with my pediatrician, Dr. George Theirs. His excellent care, as well as the care I received from CHP, are some of the reasons why I chose pediatrics as my profession.
Patients Have Taught Me: To be patient, listen well, and have empathy.
What Are Important Things Parents Can Do?: First of all, learn to say “no”. Your job is not to be your child’s best friend. Secondly, limit cell phone usage and video games and monitor their internet usage closely.
Favorite Patient Age: I enjoy the 4-5 year-olds, who basically have no “filters” when talking. It’s amazing to see what goes on in their minds! I am also enjoying watching those children who I have taken care of over the years develop into young adults. Some of them are now bringing their children to see me!
Hobbies: I have four sons, ranging in ages from 14-21 years old. Most of my spare time is spent watching them participate in baseball and soccer, and I try to get involved in their various booster organizations.
Dogs or Cats: DOG!
PC or Mac: Mac.
Playing On My iPod: Imagine Dragons; Paramore; Muse; Phil Phillips.
Favorite Vacation Spot: Italy – I’d love to relocate there someday! My goal is to visit Bora Bora!
Favorite Food: Any fresh seafood.
Favorite Author? Dan Brown.
Best Advice: “Think before you speak.”
What’s On Your Bucket List? Learn to play the piano; become fluent in Italian.
What People Don’t Know: My husband is also a physician (Michael Pezzone, M.D., Ph.D.). We married in medical school. He is a Gastroenterologist and a physician scientist who practices in the South Hills.
