Birthplace: Greetree, PA – born and raised. Yes, the restaurant on Greentree Road was my dad’s and is now run by my brothers (Aracri’s Greentree Inn).
Education: Canevin High School/ Allegheny College (Psychology major, Biology minor)/ University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) — School of Osteopathic Medicine.
Training: Pediatric Residency – UPMC Mercy.
Hospital Affiliations/Teaching: St. Clair Hospital/Magee-Womens Hospital/ UPMC Mercy/ Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at University of Pittsburgh Medical School. I also teach students from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Professional Interests: Childhood Obesity, Developmental Pediatrics, Sports Medicine.
My Hero: My Dad, who showed me that anything can be done with hard work and, also, it isn’t work if you love your job.
School Memories: Between classes in medical school, I did research as a drug addiction counselor and, also, worked as a banquet waiter.
Funniest Thing A Patient Has Said: “Man, your nose is much bigger than my Dad’s!”
What Parents Can Do To Improve Their Child’s Health: Keep them moving, playing, running.
Favorite Patient Age: I like taking care of premature babies but I have a large group of teenage guys that I care for.
Hobbies: Spending time with my whole family, hiking, eating, and beaching! I also like running and skiing. I’ve coached soccer the last eight years! I consider myself to be a great cook!
Playing On My iPod: Green Day and U2. I listen to hard rock and metal, but I do have a soft side for Billy Joel and James Taylor. Secretly, I have a long playlist of show tunes that I sing in the car with my daughter!
Who Plays You In The “Joe Aracri Story”? Tom Hanks, as in the movie “BIG”!
Favorite Vacation Spot: I am a beach person who enjoys the sun a little too much.
Favorite Book: I’m not a big reader but I have read the Harry Potter series twice.
Always In The Fridge: Ice cream!
What People Don’t Know: I married my best friend from college! We got engaged 10 years after we met — a real “When Harry Met Sally” kind of thing!
