Meet the physicians at Pediatric Alliance!

Stephanie Sterrett, M.D. – Pediatric Alliance — Greentree Division (4 years)

Birthplace: Lawton, Oklahoma.

Education:  Downingtown High School (’95)/ Gettysburg College (’99)/ University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (’04).

Training:  Pediatric Residency at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Hospital Affiliations/Teaching:  Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Magee-Womens Hospital, UPMC-Mercy, St. Clair Hospital.

Professional Interests:  Dermatology, Asthma/Allergy.

My Inspiration:  I had a fantastic pediatric resident when I was a medical student. Her name was Francesca and she made the rotation so fun and enjoyable, I knew there was nothing else that compared.

My Hero:  My grandfather, Dr. William North Sterrett, was a small town family doctor in Gettysburg, PA. He inspired me to take the leap into the field of medicine. He was an amazing man.  A medical doctor in the Army who was stationed in Japan during WWII, he was the personal physician to General Dwight Eisenhower during his time in Gettysburg and later volunteered at the Eisenhower Farm as a tour guide.  I aspire to accomplish only half of what he did.

What Parents Can Do To Improve Their Child’s Health:  Oral Health is so important- making sure you brush teeth at a young age, and avoid juice and sugary beverages. Also it’s so important that children are not exposed to cigarette smoke because this can cause them to have more upper respiratory infections, allergies, and wheezing.

Favorite Patient Age:  I love the 3-6 year olds because they have gotten over the fear of being at the doctors and really have a lot to say.  Some of them even look forward to it!

Hobbies:  Singing — I have sung with the Mendelssohn Choir, who perform with the Symphony.  The most amazing performance that I had with them was Carmina Burana directed by Manfred Honek. It was incredible!

Dogs or Cats:  Cats — I have two, Buster and Jinx.

PC or Mac:  PC – although I have an iPhone!

Playing On My iPod:  I am such a fan of Mumford and Sons.  Adele also.

Favorite Vacation Spot:  There are so many.  Travelling is a big hobby of mine. In the States, I would say San Francisco and New Orleans. I also had an amazing trip to southern England and Ireland-can’t wait to go back!

Favorite Food:  Cheese – especially when it is combined with potatoes.

Always In The Fridge:  Frank’s Red Hot.

What People Don’t Know:  I grew up in Philadelphia but was never a fan of football or hockey until I came to Pittsburgh!
