For the third consecutive year the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre will be presenting a sensory-friendly version of a popular show. And for the third year in a row, Pediatric Alliance will be holding a contest for tickets to see Peter Pan on February 18 at the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts in Downtown Pittsburgh:
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre is proud to offer sensory-friendly performances for people from all over the western Pennsylvania region and beyond! PBT debuts its sensory-friendly performance of Peter Pan in February 2016. This high-flying family favorite will mark PBT’s third sensory-friendly story ballet following The Nutcracker (2013 and 2014) and Beauty and the Beast (2015). PBT was the first professional ballet company in the country to present a sensory-friendly performance of The Nutcracker.
Pediatric Alliance is proud to support Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre by raffling off tickets to families whose children with “sensory sensitivities and other special needs” would really appreciate the experience of attending this special performance. The responses we received from the raffle the last two years as been overwhelmingly positive, and we expect this year to be no different! (Read a review from one of last year’s winners here.)
Here are the basic rules that will allow your child to enjoy the show:
- Lowering sound and light levels so there are not sudden changes.
- Keeping the house lights at half throughout the performance.
- Relaxing the house rules—you are free to get up, move around and leave.
- Electronics… yes!
- Qualified volunteers scattered throughout the theatre to assist.
- Quiet areas and activity areas in the lobby should your child need a break.
- Fidget objects and ear plugs will be available.
