Researching the right camp for your special needs child can be a full time job. The language is unique — inclusion, ESY, CCBHO, TSS support, IEP, wraparound — just to name a few. The support services, funding, and actual camp settings vary. In fact, the services a child requires at one camp can be sponsored by several different agencies. Needless to say this can be quite overwhelming for a parent…and that’s just for the one child! What if you have another…that’s just a typical child…but you want your children together?
Ten years ago, Autism Connection of PA (formerly ABOARD) started an “All Ability Camp Fair”. This allows parents to go to one spot to become educated and to have individual questions answered for all of their children’s abilities. Yes, it is even possible to have all of your children at the same camp!
